At only 19 years old, Holliday began her broadway career in Your Arms Too Short to Box with God, earning a 1981 Drama Desk nomination. At age 21, Holliday originated the role of Effie in Dreamgirls, winning the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, a Grammy Award for her recorded version of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," and Drama Desk and Theater World awards for her acting performance.
Following her stint on Broadway, she released a myriad of Billboard Hot 100 hits throughout her nine studio albums. With her passion for singing, Holliday regularly performs gospel and R&B at venues across the nation.
Most recently, she closed out the funeral of one of her greatest friends and musical influences, Aretha Franklin. "Many of my most favorite songs of Aretha’s were the quiet songs she sang with just her playing the piano or any of her soft romantic love songs," she wrote on Instagram.
