Colors of India: A Bollywood Spectacular

Bollywood Over the Years

Have you ever wondered where Bollywood got its name? Bollywood is a combination of Bombay (Mumbai’s old name) and Hollywood. The two names came together to make up a term that’s used when talking about movies produced in India.

colors of india image.jpgThe first Bollywood silent short film was screened in 1899 and was very different from the Bollywood films that exist in the present. Initially, Bollywood movies were inspired by ancient texts, historical, and mythological stories of the past.  It wasn’t until the 1950s that Bollywood came to resemble the cinematic format we know today.

Bollywood films differed greatly from the other films during this time period; it became combination of different genres in one film, from action and comedy to entertaining dance and musical numbers. The mission of Bollywood films became to distract people from the political and social issues in India and instead transport them to a world where there was no misery or hardships.

Today, Bollywood films are known for their elaborate costumes, authentic Indian music, and eye catching dance numbers. Mystic India celebrates the progression of Bollywood films by taking the audience on a journey through India via stunning displays that fuse dance, theater, and spectacular special effects.
