It's No "Wonder," She's Quite the Woman!

Lynda Carter, America's original "Wonder Woman" from the titular 1970s television show, has always had music in her heart. "I grew up in a house filled with music. My mother, who is of Mexican and Spanish descent, used to sing to my English-Irish father, and between the two of them I was introduced to a diverse array of music," she said.

In her hometown of Phoenix, Arizona, Carter debuted her singing at a local talent show at the ripe age of five years old. Just a few short years later, she was singing with Just Us four times a week near the University of Arizona. Following her stint with Just Us, Carter joined The Relatives and later Speedy Garfin and the Garfin Gathering.

The nation learned Lynda Carter's name when she won the coveted title of Miss World USA in 1972. That same year, she moved to Los Angeles to study songwriting, acting, and singing.

Her infamous role as "Wonder Woman" came in 1975, where she portrayed the DC comic superhero on television until 1979. The Lasso of Truth and Bracelets of Submission completed her trademark patriotic look, with many viewers looking up to her as a feminist icon.

In the years following, Carter starred in and produced television specials that highlighted her singing and acting. Most recently, she has had guest appearances on television shows such as Smallville and Supergirl, and film appearances in the Super Troopers movies.

Earlier this year she released her latest album, Red, Rock n' Blues, a repertoire of songs that she frequently performs with her daughter, Jessica Altman.
