Meet the Members of The Manhattan Transfer

Since the group's origins in the early 1970s, The Manhattan Transfer has lost and gained members throughout its longevity in the music scene. Read more about the current a cappela artists featured in The Manhattan Transfer Holiday Show coming to The American Theatre this December.

Cheryl Bentyne

Cheryl grew up in a musical household with a father who was a leader in a local band and a "stage mom" who encouraged singing and piano lessons. She moved out to Los Angeles after graduating early and worked a few jobs before landing an audition for The Manhattan Transfer. As a two-time cancer survivor, she believes in musical healing therapy, which inspired her to produce the album Blissongs, a soundtrack frequently used in meditative environments.

Alan Paul

Alan got his start in show business as a child actor on Broadway, including roles in The King and I and Oliver. After completing his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, he returned to Broadway in roles as Teen Angel and Johnny Casino in Grease. Shortly thereafter he befriended his Manhattan Transfer co-founders and the rest is history! His latest album, Shu Bop, pays homage to the swing era of classic doo-wop.

Janis Siegel

As a lifelong resident of Manhattan, Janis not only contributes to the group as a vocalist, but has written and arranged multiple chart-topping hits from their Grammy-winning albums. In 1993, she and her Manhattan Transfer colleagues received their honorary doctorates from the Berklee School of Music, and in 1999 they were among the first class of inductees into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.

Trist Curless

The newest member of The Manhattan Transfer is no stranger to a capella. Following his stint at the University of Northern Colorado, Trist co-founded the group m-pact. In addition to singing, he also is an audio engineer, working on tracks for groups such as Take 6 and Straight No Chaser. Trist joined the group permanently following the loss of The Manhattan Transfer founder and friend, Tim Hauser in October 2014.
