October is Arts and Humanities Month!
This October, we celebrate the people, places, and programs where art and the humanities emerge!
Hampton Arts: Our weekly web series, The HeART of Hampton, was a response to the need for engaging online content as arts venues across the world closed due to COVID-19. Fulfilling our mission to advance the arts and enhance the quality of life for the residents of Coastal Virginia, Artistic Director Richard M. Parison, Jr. dives into conversations with the artists and businesses that put the ART in the HeART of Hampton!
The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center: Since closing due to COVID-19, the CHTVAC quickly got to work creating virtual content like artist interviews, creative demos, and creative challenges. Our galleries will reopen October 17, with limited capacity, as we present the 2020 Virginia Artists Juried Exhibition. Visual art doesn't stop there-- CHTVAC offers classes onsite and online to improve skills for artists of all ages.
The American Theatre: We're excited to welcome patrons home this spring with another remarkable season! We've been busy developing enhanced health and safety protocols and socially distant seating. Limited tickets are available for in-person attendance of our events, but we look forward to rolling out a virtual ticket option this November. Some shows are already close to selling out, so be sure to grab your tickets soon!
Hampton Arts Education: With fall classes underway, we are now looking forward to our first iteration of Adaptation: A Book to Film Society, where participants (ages 15+) can explore how stories are adapted from page to screen. Our first book/film is William Goulding's The Princess Bride. In November, we'll dive into The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
Hampton Arts Foundation: We are grateful for our supporters of the Foundation, which serves to financially aid our programs and events. A fun way to be a supporter is to participate in our upcoming Painting with a Twist Holiday Fundraiser. Or, if you're feeling especially generous, you can donate online now.
We'd be remiss not to thank the Hampton Arts staff members and volunteers who spend countless hours helping make our programs great as well as our guests and visitors who call our venues "a home away from home!"
