Shawn Colvin's Grammy Nods and Wins
Shawn Colvin is one of the most profilic singer-songwriters of our time.
For many years, she's built her fanbase by releasing albums with sympathetic lyrics and ballads that tug at your heartstrings.
Straying from her career as a backup vocalist for other artists, she burst into the music scene with her solo/debut album, Steady On (1989), and was rewarded with her first Grammy win for Best Contemporary Folk Album. She was also nominated in the same category for Fat City (1992), Cover Girl (1994), and Shawn Colvin Live (2009).
Her nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1992's "I Don't Know Why" and 1996's "Get Out of This House" put her up against legendary female popstars including Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Tina Turner, Celine Dion, and Gloria Estefan.
In 1998 she was nominated again for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance as well as Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her breakout hit, "Sunny Came Home." She won her second and third Grammy in the latter categories, confirming the song's place atop the Billboard charts. A Few Small Repairs (1996), the album in which "Sunny Came Home" was featured, garnered Colvin another nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.
FUN FACT: Before Kanye pulled his infamous Beyonce rant before Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the VMAs, Ol' Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan pulled a similar stunt before Shawn Colvin accepted Song of the Year at the 1998 Grammys.
