Small Works Winners

IMG_4459.JPGSmall works of art can be just as powerful and meaningful as larger pieces. These miniature creations can pack a punch in terms of artistic value and emotional impact. They offer a unique opportunity for artists to explore different mediums and techniques more intimately and concisely. Despite their diminutive size, small works of art can leave a lasting impression on those who view them, showcasing the skill, creativity, and imagination of the artist behind them.

Small works of art are also often more affordable, making them accessible to a wider range of collectors and enthusiasts. This exhibition is open to all Coastal Virginia and Virginia artists. Awards are given for First ($200), Second ($150), and Third ($100) Places in both Small Work (8 inch x 10 inch / 8 cubed for 3D) and Miniature (4 inch x 5 inch / 5 cubed for 3D).

richard ward.jpgThis years Small Works judge is Richard Ward. Ward received his BFA and Art Education Certification from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in May of 1982. During his tenure at SAIC, he explored traditional and contemporary ideas of painting with George Liebert and Emilio Cruz respectively. Ward also took courses in Painting, Materials, and Methods with Frank Piatek which proved to be truly an eye-opening experience. Equally as influential, were the many mature practicing artists who would frequent the historic Southside Community Arts Center; individuals such as Mr. Bill Walker and Mr. Mitch Caton, who were active muralists in Chicago. These two gentlemen did their share to counsel and inspire a young Ward to be, not only creative, but tenacious in his development.
