Tiffany's Mall Madness
Tiffany's Mall Madness
Her teeny-bop days may be over now, but in the height of the 80s you could find Tiffany and other teen sensations performing at malls throughout the nation.
She began her touring journey on June 23, 1987 with The Beautiful You: Celebrating The Good Life Shopping Mall Tour. Tiffany sang to crowds of adoring fans and used personal video clips for her “I Think We’re Alone Now” music video.
At just 15 years old, she became the youngest female singer to top the Billboard charts with a debut album, and many think the tour, consisting of more than a dozen stops, was the reason for the success. MCA Vice President Larry Solters said in an interview, “We’re hitting every demographic."
Television shows and other media have referenced the age of the mall tours, poking fun at the music culture at the time. How I Met Your Mother parodied the teen sensation in the music video for “Let’s Go to the Mall” featuring the fictitious character, Robin Sparkles. In real life, Tiffany guest-starred in another music video for Robin Sparkles called “Sandcastles in the Sand.”
Since her success on the mall circuit, Tiffany has gone on to record 10 studio albums. Her latest album, "Pieces of Me," was released in 2018.
