Wade Mickley's Mixed Media Masterpieces

download.jpgWade Mickley’s work is inspired by folk art, primitive art, personal angst, and all forms of graphic design, from information design to corporate identity systems. His work contains an intriguing awkwardness that has a rhythm between contour, color, and mistake.

His pieces are meditations on the unpredictability of life. In spite of all the information we are given, he believes much is unknown to us in the moment, with clarity only achieved upon later reflection. His working process parallels this belief. Allowing the imagery to manifest itself, it becomes an exercise in movement and a dedication to discovery.

Wade Mickley is a graphic designer at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA and also works as a freelance illustrator for regional and national publications.

Check out what Wade had to say about his process of creating art in this episode of The Scene!
