#1 Hit Family - The Nelsons!
With NELSON, Matthew and Gunnar’s pop rock band, the two reached an unprecedented achievement in 1990 with their self-penned “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection,” cementing the Nelson family as the only family in history to have three successive generations of No. 1 hit makers.
Matthew and Gunnar's song was featured on the album, After the Rain, which went double platinum in the US. The hard-rock/glam-metal hit also topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Their rockabilly-loving father, Ricky Nelson, climbed to the top twice with “Poor Little Fool” in 1958 and “Travelin’ Man” in 1961. Originally opposed to the idea of releasing a single, Nelson sold more than 2 million copies of "Poor Little Fool" with Imperial Records. His version of "Travelin' Man" was recently brought back to life in a television commercial for the Toyota Corolla hybrid.
Ozzie Nelson, grandfather to the twins, was the primary vocalist and founder of Ozzie Nelson and His Orchestra. In 1935, they claimed the #1 spot with "And Then Some." He co-led the revolutionized switch from radio to television with his bandmate and wife, Harriet, when The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet turned into a televised broadcast featuring their real-life sons in 1952. Ozzie is also credited as producing one of the first "music videos" by compiling video clips of his son Ricky performing on stage.
